Evolution Korea
Up until recently, the Korean scientific community avoided working with creationists due to the fear of giving the movement more credence. Silence is no longer a viable option.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate content from textbooks that explain evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestor of birds. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the developmental paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a theory of science that explains the changes in the genetic traits of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living creatures adapt to their environment, which may lead to variations in genes or entire genomes. These changes can over many generations result in the development of new species. The prevailing theory of evolution is called natural selection, which explains the process that allows those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more frequently than those with disadvantages. Over time, this differential reproduction may lead to the development of completely new species.
The word "evolution" originates from Latin for revealing or unrolling, has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has evolved, both in science as well as elsewhere. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into a new species. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire, Lamarck's embryologist disciple who came up with the term "transmutation" to describe this view. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, criticized the concept of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.
More recently, evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living creatures develop characteristics that enhance their chances of survival or the ability to produce offspring. As time passes this genetic variation can result in the development of completely new biological functions or physical traits in a population. Natural selection is the process that drives the majority of evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet, can't be considered evolution because they aren't passed on to future generations.
Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and thousands of scientific studies, creationists have seized on the idea that evolution is controversial to claim that it shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high schools. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary origins for humans as well as Archaeopteryx - a feathered dino that is believed to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution important to humanity?

It is crucial that scientists and educators speak out for teaching evolution. Unfortunately, in a few nations around the world there is a growing anti-evolutionist sentiment. In the United States, efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made headway in a few states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbook content on the evolutionary history of horses and their avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
It is important to remember that the evidence in favor of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from many sources, such as fossils, genetics, and the behavior of living creatures. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.
The vast majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support are diverse. Some scientists study evolution in order to make practical discoveries such as developing new medicines, while others do so to improve animal and plants species, mostly to benefit of humans. Some are simply curious, whereas others have a deep faith in God and seek to understand how the universe functions.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians, but not all. Creationists typically fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
The YECs are the best known type of creationist, and they believe that God created the world in the exact way described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is true and that the universe and life on Earth was created only recently.
OECs aren't as well-known However, their beliefs are just as fierce as the YECs. OECs believe the universe and Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is a myth.
Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles such as natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution isn't possible because it requires an extraordinary event, and that the founders of modern science rejected miracles out of fear of losing credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution and special creation and refer to their belief as "theistic evolution.” It is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." In this theory, God creates the original species and allows them to change over time. In the end, these evolutionary changes will create new species that are similar to the original ones.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event called the Great Flood. Creationists believe that all the original species were created at the same time and that they gradually evolved. They also reject the idea of abiogenesis, and argue that the emergence of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is not possible.
In general, the creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. This is supported by a variety of professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education and the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, some researchers and educational institutions are more flexible and permit the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curricula.
What exactly is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their textbooks. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) has been the driving force behind this campaign. STR has won its first victory by taking away instances of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx in textbooks. Its next target is to eliminate the finch-research of Darwin's famed as well as on human evolution.
STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its aim is to root out what it regards as the "atheist materialism" that paints an unhopeful worldview for students. 에볼루션바카라 hopes to combat the influence of American Creationists in the nation. A survey of trainees in biology found that half did not believe in evolution. The causes aren't clear but could be due to religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists across the United States.
The KACR has accomplished a lot through its seminars and lectures. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of these was a textbook on natural sciences with a cosmological perspective. It sparked interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 6 and 7 the 7th of August 1993, which coincided with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from outside the country, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to a crowd of more than a thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR intends to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
